Drone Spotted Over DC Military Base

An unidentified drone was recently spotted over an army base in Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington DC. The military base was housing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Head of the Department of War, Pete Hegseth.

Fort McNair has been known to house many top military officials, but not usually political figures such as Rubio and Hegseth, but they did move there for security concerns. One other top Trump Administration official who was living in the same base was the previous Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem.

This incident forced the US to increase security measures in several army bases, including Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. These bases have raised their protection level to Charlie, meaning the commander has intelligence indicating an attack may be possible.

There have been similar drone threats during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, when the Secret Service reportedly spotted multiple unidentified drones.

Whether these incidents are related is not known, and it would be almost impossible to find out. So far, nothing has happened as a result of these drone sightings.

What stuck out to me about this story is the fact that the drone is completely unidentified, we don’t know what type of drone it was. Was it a consumer drone? A militarized drone? Does it even matter? We have already seen especially in Ukraine that drones normally meant to be used recreationally can easily be outfitted with bombs and used as weapons.

It is not yet known who was behind this drone that was seen, whether it was another country or an individual with a crude consumer drone. A huge fear about drones is that anyone can get them and that they can be controlled from anywhere, making it hard to detect the person controlling it. but one thing we do know is that drone production is at an all time high and we will see more of them in the skies and more alarm.
